Eastbourne in East Sussex - A Great Seaside Resort

Eastbourne is a cool seaside resort place in East Sussex, UK. It lies to the south east of England. This large town and East Sussex borough has a population just over 95000. It is the sunniest spot in England, as it is positioned on the eastern part of South Downs.

Its about 100 kms from London. The streets are lined with trees, making it a well planned town. It is located along the exciting Beachy Head cliff. If you have a day to spend here, you must make it to - the town centre, Hampden Park and Sovereign Harbour.

It was many years ago a small village. A lot of developments took place in the 19th century and today it's the place for retirement. The modern town as you can see today is actually four hamlets together - Southbourne, Sea Houses, Meads and Eastbourne.

In the old village of Eastbourne is the St Mary's Church. The pier and the bandstand are the common places of interest. Eastbourne was considered as a Victorian seaside resort. The 4 mile long beach is the happening place with restaurants and resorts.

You can enjoy gold and theatre for relaxation. During the cold months, take a tour of the winter gardens. The Carpet Gardens are perhaps the old of them all. The town attracts a lot of holiday crowd. There is some minor industrial activity too.

The Devonshire Park is the place for the local tennis tournaments. Some of the major attractions are - Lifeboat Museum, The Towner Art Gallery and Eastbourne Redoubt Fortress. The museum is all about sea rescuing and the gallery is full of British art situated in a old manor. The fortress is a military museum.

You have, go today, tram, rail and bus services in the town. It is great for short breaks and if you are lucky can catch the International Women's Open Tennis tournaments.
