A Look at Brixham, Devon

England is full of wonderful places to visit. It is one of the greatest features of the country. There are so many great getaway spots that are close by. One area that is popular is Brixham, Devon. Brixham is a nice town where you can fish. It is located at the southwest of England and on the south end of Torbay. Most people know Brixham as a fishing port.

The reason the town works so well as a fishing port is because it is so hilly. It is built around the harbor. Today, the harbor is still used as a dock for fishing trawlers. One of the most interesting things about the harbor is a famous replica ship is permanently docked there. The ship is a replica of Sir Francis Drake's ship and it is called the Golden Hind.

Today you might think Brixham's fishing port is relatively small, however, during the Middle Ages, it was the largest fishing port in the south west. The boats that came into the port at that time helped establish many fishing industries.

Another interesting fact about the harbor is the hundreds of ships that have been literally shipwrecked and found in Brixham. Many believe that the rocks around Brixham wrecked these ships. However, others think they were surprised by storms and the ships simply landed at Brixham.

The city obviously makes a lot of its income from fishing. The fishing industry is undoubtedly the largest in Brixham. However, there are many local industries that deal with stone. Limestone, go today, is used for many things in Brixham. Also, the mineral orche is widely used in Brixham. It is used for shipping purposes, paint, and other items.

If you visit Brixham in the summer, you can experience the Cowtown carnival. The main attraction for this event during the summer is the Hap'nin that occurs in St. Mary's Park. The Hap'nin is an annual music event. During the event, local bands play. It is a fun event to participate in and definitely a way to experience the culture of Brixham.

Another thing that you definitely want to do in Brixham is check out the archery club, the Brixham Archers. Archery is huge in Brixham. Besides archery, people in Brixham also play a lot of Rugby like other fellow Englanders.

Brixham is definitely unique. There is no place quite like it. It is a wonderful town that has a rich history.
